Stella,

I wanted to bring to your attention a growing concern of mine, likewise shared by other Counselors within my purview, Theodore Grambell.

Following our regular employee lunch period (Noon – 1 p.m.), I returned to my office and found Theodore digging through my file cabinets. As you well know, the children are not supposed to be in Playcare during this period, especially anywhere near the employee offices between 12 & 1. I shooed him off, stressing that everyone knew the time before recess began at 1 is his alone. While it was an easy enough fix, I quickly began to realize that the boy hardly knew what he was looking for.

“I lost the old note,” he said to me. I sat him down here in my office, and thinking perhaps he meant old classwork or Playcare tool, I asked him the name of which he was looking for. He told me “I don’t know his name. Nobody else knows his name. He knows his own name, but I can’t remember what.”

I’ve been told before that Theodore has an imaginary friend. This is normal for a child, I know, and follows a wide-ranging trend of behavior in Theodore noted by my staff.

I’m going to put Theodore in special Counseling sessions each evening (beginning tomorrow) to see if there is a deeper reason or motivation for these actions. After all, an imaginary friend can be created for any number of reasons.

Theodore is a troubled boy, but we’re committed to helping him in whatever way we can.
